CJP Broadcast Delivers Virtual Production and Motion Capture Facilities for the University for the Creative Arts

CJP Broadcast Service Solutions transformed an existing studio at UCA’s Farnham campus into a versatile virtual production and motion capture facility. The turnkey installation includes an LED volume, motion capture stage, and broadcast-quality lighting, providing students with industry-standard tools for film, TV, and games production.

The Vision

UCA sought a comprehensive virtual studio that would support film and games production while providing students with access to professional workflows. CJP was selected to design and install a highly flexible facility, ensuring students could experiment with virtual sets, real-time graphics, and motion capture for character animation.

The Challenge

CJP needed to transform an existing studio into a fully integrated virtual production space that supported both motion capture and traditional filmmaking. The installation had to deliver precise camera tracking, high-quality LED displays, and adaptable lighting, while ensuring the system remained accessible, scalable, and future-proof.

LED Volume Installation

CJP installed an 8m x 3m curved LED wall and a 4.5m x 2m ceiling panel, using INFiLED panels with Brompton processing. This setup creates immersive virtual environments, allowing seamless integration of real and digital elements for film and games production.

Virtual Production Capabilities

The studio features Mo-Sys StarTracker camera tracking and Mo-Sys VP Pro XR software, enabling real-time set extensions using Unreal Engine. This allows students to explore advanced virtual production techniques, merging physical and digital spaces with precision.

Motion Capture and Character Animation

To support realistic character animation, CJP implemented a 20-camera Vicon motion capture system within an existing green screen area. This setup allows students to create high-fidelity digital characters for games and film production.

Flexible Studio Design

The space was designed for maximum versatility, functioning as a virtual studio, motion capture stage, or conventional production studio. Kino Flo hard and soft lights were installed to provide broadcast-quality illumination, ensuring optimal lighting across all use cases.

“CJP took us through every aspect of this project, showing us how we could use the same facilities as the best professionals. They supplied, installed, and trained us on it all, and their continuing support is hugely valued by us.”
