Recently, Gibraltar Broadcasting Corporation, Gibraltar’s national television and radio service (GBC) ran a programme looking back on the historic events of the 2002 Sovereignty Referendum in Gibraltar. The programme aired on Monday 7th November, marking 20 years since the vote took place.
GBC chose to re-air some of the archived referendum results, screening a number of specials to commemorate the occasion.
This archived content was as accessible as it was due to the restoration and digitisation work carried out by CJP Broadcast Service Solutions back in 2020. GBC had accumulated a huge amount of content since they first began television broadcasting in 1962 and this large-scale video transcription project involved the digitisation of its entire tape library spanning nearly half a century, from the 1970s through 2014.
Over 15,000 tapes in various formats were checked and repaired when necessary and transferred to digital media for long-term archiving.
Deploying a mixture of in-house transfer facilities and working with specialist broadcast and audio format partners, CJP Broadcast can restore and digitise almost all professional and broadcast tape and film types and transcode these into current file formats.
