Why university facilities are vital
StoryFutures, run by the National Film & Television School and Royal Holloway, University of London, drives forward the creative and technical practice of immersive storytelling, using tools like virtual production. Its aim is to ensure the industry thrives by developing a constant stream of new talent.
It recently published a report, identifying the skills gaps and needs across film, television and game development [see here]. Its key finding was that, despite the availability of new training initiatives, the demand for training continues to outstrip supply.
CJP Sales Manager recently wrote an article for TVBEurope – now available to read in the October/November 2023 edition – discussing this and how UK universities are developing industry-relevant courses supported by professional-grade technology, with systems integrator CJP playing a pivotal role in building facilities, such as SODA at Manchester Metropolitan University and a large LED volume at the University of the Creative Arts, amongst others. Though a formidable skills gap is present, universities and industry stakeholders are collaboratively endeavoring to bridge it by developing new talent and expertise, fostering a future where virtual and immersive production becomes universally viable.
