AV Awards 2023

CJP Broadcast Service Solutions Shortlisted for Education Project of the Year

CJP Broadcast Service Solutions has been shortlisted for the Education Project of the Year award at the 2023 AV Awards for their work at the University of Sunderland. The project entailed the development of HD, virtual production, and motion capture facilities for students of the university.

CJP was chosen as the technology partner to redevelop an existing studio on the St Peter’s campus, transforming it into a production facility equipped with spaces for virtual reality and gaming animation. The upgraded main studio is now equipped with full video and audio production capabilities, dynamic graphics, and virtual studio backgrounds. As part of the project, LED lighting was installed to replace the previous tungsten lighting, reducing the power consumption and carbon footprint of the facility. Additionally, a coved green screen wall was added for chromakeying and virtual production.

The facility also includes a large LED volume for virtual production and character animation, as well as full-body motion capture functionality. Mo-Sys technology was incorporated to provide precise camera tracking and realistic virtual environments.

Following the announcement of their investment in the new virtual production studios, the University of Sunderland has seen an increase in student numbers and international interest. The project provides a resource for media students and fosters opportunities for collaboration within the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries.

The university staff have acknowledged the positive impact of the project, which equips students with hands-on experience in production. CJP Broadcast Service Solutions’ work with the University of Sunderland illustrates the potential of contemporary technology to enhance educational environments.
